Retinol Or Hyaluronic Acid – Which Skincare Ingredient Is Better?

Retinol Vs. Hyaluronic Acid

Retinol Or Hyaluronic Acid

I love talking about skincare ingredients and what they do for the skin. Today, I want to talk about Retinol Or Hyaluronic acid, which of these skincare ingredients is better for the skin. Fortunately, I highly recommended both for the skin. You can also use them at the same time to help treat, tone, and hydrate the skin. I want to address some commonly asked questions about retinol and hyaluronic acid and how they treat the skin.

How Does Retinol Work On The Skin?

Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin A and, therefore, an essential nutrient for the skin. It is a weaker version of retinoids but just as powerful and has smaller molecules that penetrate deep into the epidermis and dermis of the skin. Retinol works by neutralizing free radicals on the skin and inside the skin. These free radicals that our bodies make, and the environment, attach themselves to our skin and skin cells and cause damage to the skin cells, thereby causing rapid aging. When you don’t neutralize these free radicals, you will begin to see lines and wrinkles on your skin. Retinol also helps treat your skin texture by exfoliating your skin and removing dead skin cells that cause your skin to look dull and tired. With continuous use of retinol, you will notice an overall glow and smooth skin texture. Retinol is like botox in a bottle.

Who Benefits From Retinol?

Everyone can benefit from using retinol. Do not wait until you begin to see lines and wrinkles before you jump on the retinol bandwagon. You can start using retinol as early as in your 20’s. Retinol contains antioxidant properties that neutralize free radicals that cause damage and premature aging. Retinol is the best antiaging treatment on the market, and you should start using it in your early years to enjoy all its excellent benefits.

Now, let’s talk about hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the body’s connective tissue and eyes. The main job of hyaluronic acid is to hold water to keep the tissues well lubricated and moist when we apply this same theory to the skin; hyaluronic acid absorbs moisture from the atmosphere and to keeps the skin hydrated. Continous use of hyaluronic acid will make your skin plump up, and as the skin plumps up, you will see a reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, forehead wrinkles, and overall skin radiance.

Does Hyaluronic Acid Serum Work?

Yes, hyaluronic acid works, but here is the catch, not all hyaluronic acids are created equal – you want to buy hyaluronic acid that has nano molecules that weigh 80~1,000 kDa. The higher the molecules in the hyaluronic acid, it stays on the surface of the skin and creates a film. The smaller the molecule, the better it can penetrate the skin’s epidermis and do the work it is required to do. Remember, hyaluronic acid is like a sponge and needs a moist environment to work better – for best results, before applying your hyaluronic acid, you can dampen your face with a little bit of water before you use your product. You can also pair hyaluronic acid with aloe vera for optimal benefits.

Do I Need To Put Moisturizer After Hyaluronic Acid?

Yes. It is imperative always to apply moisturizer at the end of your skincare routine. Most moisturizers are formulated with hydrating ingredients to help keep your skin nourished and soft. Opt for moisturizers formulated with ceramides to treat your skin barrier and help trap moisture in your skin. Most brands are also formulating moisturizers with collagen and peptides – those are also powerful ingredients to use for your skin.

Should I Use Retinol Or Hyaluronic Acid First?

Suppose you plan to use both retinol and hyaluronic acid in your skincare routine. In that case, I will suggest you apply your retinol first and wait for about 15 minutes to apply your hyaluronic acid.

These two ingredients are the holy grail, and work hard to give you the best skin ever.
