Some of the top ingredients for treating acne include benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, sulfur, and azelaic acid. I have used all these ingredients to treat my acne at some point in time.

Although my skin loves salicylic acid, all the other ingredients are as potent and treat the cause of acne.

What Causes Acne?

Overproduction of oil or sebum, acne-causing bacteria, dirt, and dead skin cells causes acne in the skin. These factors clog the pore, and the inflamed pore turns into acne.

So, to treat the acne, we have to treat the cause of the acne. And, we can do this by clearing the pores of the acne plug; salicylic acne does an excellent job by cleaning out the pores of debris and acne plug.

Also, other ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, azelaic acid exfoliate the dead skin cells away, control and balance the oil production in the skin, and kill the acne-causing bacteria.

Dr. Zenovia Tips For Using Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide, effective for treating blemishes, can cause skin dryness. Following up with the Dr. Zenovia Skin Care Aloe Vera Blemish Soothing Moisturizer will ensure skin is left hydrated and nourished.

My Thoughts

I have used benzoyl peroxide, and I like how it works. It does balance oils in the skin and dries out the acne. But, unfortunately, my skin couldn’t keep up with daily use – it dried out my skin so much. So I will use it only on affected areas or as a spot treatment before doing my skincare routine.

Also, remember everyone’s skin is different, and while some skins may tolerate using it daily, others may have to use it sparingly.
