How To Fight The Climate Crisis

My duty as a humanitarian is to work for the welfare of society. Also, I am working towards coming up with solutions to solve societal and global issues. In addition, according to research conducted, the most critical world problems include

Climate change

Pollution

Lack of education

Violence

Unemployment

Lack of skill development

Government corruption

Malnutrition

Mental/emotional ill health

Refugee crisis

Child marriage

Human/child trafficking

Pandemics

We must attend to these global issues with urgency. Many organizations are working towards solutions to these problems, and I hope I will be able to make a significant impact when it comes to bringing practical solutions.

We Are Damaging Our Ecosystems And Biodiversity

Today, I want to highlight the climate issues, which may bring catastrophic consequences if not urgently addressed. If you have paid attention to the news in the last couple of years, it seems climate change is causing a shift in the atmosphere, the environment, and biodiversity. When it comes to biodiversity if the climate conditions cause extreme weather patterns, animals, pests, and organisms that are natives of specific habitats may find themselves relocating to locations that are not native to them. In addition, the shift in ecology may be harmful not only to animals but to humans as well.

It is imperative for leadership worldwide to prioritize the health of the atmosphere to protect the earth. It is time for leadership and companies to do the right thing, sacrifice, and put the planet first before profits.

What Is The Atmosphere?

The atmosphere is an envelope of gases surrounding the earth. Also, there are gases called greenhouse gases that help to trap some heat on the planet to keep it warm.

The daily activity of the greenhouse gases is that the sun shines through the atmosphere during the day, warming the earth’s surface. Also, the earth’s surface cools at night, releasing heat into the air. But some of the heat is trapped by the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

The greenhouse gases contain specific compositions that we should not alter. These gases are Carbon Dioxide CO2, Methane CH4, Nitrous Oxide N O, Chlorofluorocarbon- 12

Now, what is happening is that because of the burning of fossil fuels, especially coal, for electricity, there are tons of carbon emissions in the atmosphere, disrupting the natural makeup of the greenhouse gases. Thus, the accelerated amount of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere makes it difficult for heat to escape back into space.

What Happens When Heat Can Not Escape The Earth Into Space?

When heat can not escape into space, it is called the greenhouse effect.

Also, when Carbon Dioxide escapes into the atmosphere, it stays in the atmosphere between 300 to 1000 years.

The accelerated amount of carbon dioxide and methane greenhouse gases trapped in the atmosphere traps more heat, which causes damage to the earth.

What Are Some Of The Visible Damage Climate Change Is Causing?

Hotter temperature

More severe storms

Increased drought

Warm, rising ocean

Loss of species

Famine

Pandemic

Poverty

Melting glaciers

Change in biodiversity

Forest fires

Air pollution

Water pollution

Heavy rain and flooding

How To Fight The Climate Crisis

We need universal education on the problem facing the earth. I know there is division regarding climate change; some think it’s a hoax. But there is evidence of the effects of global warming.

We must phase out fossil fuels, the main culprit of global warming.

Also, we need to invest in cleaning up the excess carbon from the atmosphere.

We need to implement renewable energy. We have natural sources available that replenish themselves. But if we are not careful, those natural sources may not be available in 50 years.

Here Are Examples Of Renewable Energy And The Kind Of Energy They Provide

Hydro energy is a source of energy that generates power by using falling or fast-running water to produce electricity. It can also power homes and businesses and supply clean water for homes. Also, it can provide flood control.

Solar energy – this energy from the sun gives us thermal or electricity supply. Also, we can use solar energy to power homes and heat homes.

Wind energy – wind energy uses the wind to generate mechanical power or electricity using wind turbines. Also, we can use Wind energy for electricity and to power vehicles.

Tidal energy – this energy comes from the ocean waters surge during tides’ rise and fall. We get electricity from tidal energy that sufficiently powers homes.

Geothermal energy – this is the energy we get from within the earth. Also, we can use this energy for electricity, heating, and cooking.

Biomass is energy from plant materials used as fuel to produce heat or electricity. These materials include wood, wood residues, energy crops, agricultural residue, industrial waste, farms, households, and food leftovers.

We can use energy from biomass to generate electricity and heat. Also, we can use the fuel from biomass to power cars and airplanes.

Is Switching To 100% Renewable Energy Possible And Feasible?

I believe it is, but leaders need the right mindset; In addition, we need workers like environmental scientists, climatologists, and atmospheric scientists to assess the damage and draw solutions.

We need to re-evaluate the current systems we are using to generate power and electricity, the number of carbon emissions we are letting into the atmosphere, and how it impacts our planet, and decide if this is the path we want to continue pursuing.
