It is estimated that 45-50 million Americans suffer from Acne annually and 80% of people between the ages of 12 and 26 experience, at least, minor acne which results in acne scars.

Acne usually starts at puberty for many individuals, but can also start at any age. Acne is a chronic skin condition that occurs on the face, back, shoulders and chest. Acne is caused by overworking sebaceous oil glands that produce too much oil, with a mixture of bacteria, and dead skin cells. When the skin pore become plugged by Propionibacterium Acnes (the acne causing bacteria), the bacteria multiplies and start to form skin lesions (acne, pimples).

Here are some ingredients that will help with treatment for acne

SULFUR Sulfur contains antibacterial and keratolytic properties. The antibacterial is effective for getting rid of the acne-causing bacteria while keratolytic property exfoliates the top layer of your skin by sloughing off dead skin. Sulfur is great if you have severe acne. There are over the counter Sulfur soap, Sulfur ointments, Sulfur creams that help with acne. Sulfur also helps with acne scar removal.
**Consult your doctor before using sulfur products. Some people may be allergic to sulfur.

SALICYLIC ACID Salicylic acid is used in the treatment of mild acne. It also contains Keratolytic. Salicylic acid is derived from the bark of the Willow Tree. It helps to fight acne by unclogging the pores. It must be used continually to see lasting results. Salicylic acid can be found in face cleansers, face toners and face creams usually targeted for people oily skin. This is most common and best acne treatment for oily skin.

BENZOYL PEROXIDE Benzoyl Peroxide is used to treat mild to moderate acne. They come in different strength from 2.5%, 5.0% to 10.0%. There is no evidence to that the lower strength is more effective compared to the higher strength. When using benzoyl peroxide acne treatment, the difference is that the higher strength might be more drying for your skin compared to the lower strength. To avoid drying start with the lower concentration, so your skin adjusts to the drying effect then you can build up to the higher level.
**Consult your doctor before using products containing Benzoyl Peroxide.

Great post, thank you for sharing! I've had acne before although it wasn't bad I was prescribed some cream with bleach in that made my skin so dry! These products sound like much better alternatives.

Tea tree oil really helped when I struggled with acne. I didn't like the smell at first, but after a while it grew on me. I remember using the Tea Tree range by The Body Shop. It was such a great collection! xx
