Best Exfoliators For Glowing Skin

Our skin naturally sheds dead skin cells that have served their purpose. Our skin cell’s purpose is to help our skin maintain a healthy skin barrier

In addition, Our skin cells and lipids (oils) form our skin barrier, but it’s vital to remove dead skin cells that have served their purpose so the skin can look radiant and refreshed.

For most people, a dull-looking skin complexion may indicate an accumulation of dead skin cells on the face. The best acids to help exfoliate dead skin cells include glycolic acid, lactic acid, or mandelic acid.

I will share the best exfoliators for glowing skin in this blog post.

Best Exfoliators For Glowing Skin

Glycolic Acid For All Skin Types:  Glycolic acid visibly exfoliates the skin by sloughing away dead skin cells, mainly old corneocyte skin cells that you need to remove from the skin. But, be mindful not to over-exfoliate your skin which will slough away more corneocytes than required. In addition, corneocytes help maintain a healthy skin barrier because your skin barrier consists of corneocytes and lipid layers.

Glycolic acid also helps to stimulate collagen and elastin production to help reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles and to firm the skin. In addition, because of its small molecular structure, glycolic acid goes deep into the second layer of the skin (Dermis) to stimulate collagen and elastin, which helps to reduce wrinkles because it lifts parts of the skin which is sunken.

Salicylic Acid For Oily skin/acne-prone Skin: Salicylic acid is a BHA and is best for treating oily and acne-prone skin. In addition, Salicylic acid works to gently remove dead skin cells, cleanse the pores, help to balance oils in the skin and treat acne-causing bacteria on the skin. Furthermore, Salicylic acid exfoliates skin to slough away dead skin cells and reveal brighter and more radiant skin.

Lactic Acid For Dry Skin

Lactic acid is a proven option for exfoliating dead skin cells from the skin’s surface, increasing the rate of cell turnover and improving overall skin health. I recommend this remedy to those with acne scars, even though it can work with all skin types. In addition, Lactic acid has humectant properties that help to draw moisture to the skin, so if you have dry skin, you will benefit from adding Lactic acid to your skincare routine.

Azelaic Acid For All Skin Types: Azelaic acid is a multifunctioning ingredient that treats skin conditions such as acne, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and psoriasis. In addition, it helps to exfoliate the skin to remove dead skin cells to reveal brighter and more radiant skin. Furthermore, Azelaic acid cleans the skin of acne-causing bacteria.

Polyhydroxy Acid For Sensitive Skin: PHA has similar exfoliating characteristics as AHA and BHA. The only difference is their molecular structure. Whereas AHA’s have a smaller molecular structure, PHA has a larger molecular structure, thus, causing PHA’s not to penetrate the skin. Therefore, PHA’s are best for people with sensitive skin as it gently exfoliates dead skin cells to whisk them away without irritation, revealing more radiant skin.

Also, PHA’s are rich in antioxidants, stimulating collagen and elastin production and repairing damaged skin cells. In addition, they keep the skin hydrated because of their humectant properties. Most importantly, PHA’s fight glycation, a process that weakens collagen and elastin in the skin.
