What is Faith?
According to the King James Version of the Bible in Hebrews 11:1, it says ” Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
In simple terms, having Faith is knowing that there are things in existence even though you can not see it or feel it in the present moment.
In Matthew 8, the Centurion showed such great Faith that Jesus had to compliment him on it. The Centurion had a sick servant and had come to Jesus to ask for healing for his servant. Jesus had just arrived in Capernaum when the Centurion approached Him. The Centurion said to Jesus that he had a servant who was at home and sick. Jesus said to the Centurion; He (Jesus) would go back to the Centurion’s house with him and heal his servant.
The Centurion then told Jesus that (Matthew 8:8) Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. When Jesus heard what the Centurion said, HE marveled greatly for Jesus said in reply – (Matthew 8:10) verily I say unto you, I have not found so great Faith, no, not in Israel.
In this passage, the Centurion showed such great Faith that Jesus was taken aback because He had not seen anyone express such faith.
It is challenging to show faith in our broken world; we live by the rule of ”seeing is believing.” But, to live a life pleasing to God, we ought to live by Faith and not by sight. We ought to live and Believe as the Centurion did. Even though we can not see, we should have faith that the things we seek are already in existence and already ours. We do not have to see evidential things before we believe.
Whatever you seek, pray, and believe, and if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, whatever you ask, will be yours.
