The skincare ingredients we apply to our skin are vital because they help replenish our skin with the natural ingredients that may be depleting. As we age, some ingredients in the skin require us to replenish—for example – collagen, hyaluronic acid, CoQ10, and peptides.

In this blog post, we will share how some of these vital ingredients work on the skin to keep the skin healthy and youthful-looking.

Retinoids

Retinoids are derivatives of Vitamin A, and they work by helping the skin cells to turnover/exfoliate to slough off dead skin cells and to help reveal new skin cells that cause your skin to look radiant and brighter. In addition, retinoids go deep into the second layer of the skin called the Dermis. So they also work to stimulate collagen production, so Retinoids are potent ingredients if you want to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Retinoids help to make your skin smooth and brighter, plump your skin to reduce wrinkles, and give you a youthful look.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a vital skincare ingredient and does several things to the skin:

  1. Vitamin C is a needed ingredient that helps amino acids create collagen in the skin.
  2. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that helps neutralize free radicals that damage the skin cells and cause premature wrinkles on the skin.
  3. Vitamin C is a Tyrosinase Inhibitor that inhibits the pigmentation process through the Tyrosinase Inhibition of the melanin pigment pathway, which causes melanin not to be produced.

Therefore, many skincare experts recommend Vitamin C to help fade acne spots, hyperpigmentation, and melasma. In addition, if you want even-toned and radiant skin, you may add Vitamin C to your skincare regimen.

AHA (Glycolic acid, Malic acid, Citric acid)

Alpha Hydroxy Acids work on the uppermost layers of the skin surface by loosening the bonds between dead surface layers and the new skin beneath to slough away the dead skin cells to reveal new skin cells.

CoQ10

CoQ10 is an antioxidant that helps the skin cells to generate energy in your cells. CoQ10 also helps to neutralize free radicals. As a result, CoQ10 gives energy to your cells so your cells can regenerate and your skin can fight free radicals.

Peptides

Peptides act as little messengers triggering skin cells to perform a specific function, such as building collagen and elastin, encouraging the skin to look and act younger. Peptides are strings of Amino acids, building blocks that makeup proteins in our body. Without these proteins, we will see wrinkles. Therefore, topically applying Peptide serum on our skin boosts collagen production for firmer and youthful-looking skin.

Ceramides

Ceramides are lipids that help form the skin’s barrier and help the skin retain moisture. Ceramides also help the skin protect itself against environmental aggressors like irritants and pollution. Without the proper ratio of Ceramides, the skin’s barrier can become compromised, leading to dryness, itching, and irritation. You can find Lipid between our skin cells as it holds them together to form a secured skin barrier.

Antioxidant Serum

Antioxidant protects the skin by neutralizing free radicals on the skin. Free radicals damage the skin cells and degrade collagen, causing sagging skin and premature wrinkles. You may use Antioxidant serums such as Vitamin C, Retinol, Vitamin E, Resveratrol, CoQ10, and Niacinamide.
