Hydration Vs. Moisturizer – What You Need To Know

Hydration Vs. Mositurization

Hydration Vs. Moisturizer

Hydration is different from moisturization. Moisturization is the process of adding oil to your skin or hair. Naturally, our skin produces oil to keep our bodies soft and healthy. When our skin produces excessive oil on our face, this is what develops into oily skin, which will develop into acne-prone skin in most cases.

Hydration is the process of impacting water into the skin by introducing humectants into the skin.

In essence, hydration is introducing water into the skin, while moisturization is the process of adding oil into the skin. This oil helps to seal in actual water/hydration in the skin. The moisturization helps the skin to maintain its hydration level. Since our skin has natural moisturizer via sebum production, we can still have dehydrated skin because of the lack of hydration (water).

Not to confuse Dry Skin with Dehydrated Skin, dry skin is the lack of sebum/oil/lipids in the skin, whereas dehydrated skin is when the skin lacks water/hydration.

MOISTURIZATION

If you have dry skin, you can benefit from oil-based products and moisturize your skin. Look for products with ingredients such as oleic acid, jojoba oil, shea butter, cocoa butter.

Jojoba Oil – Jojoba oil has essential fatty acids, potent antioxidants, and vitamins to nourish and heal the skin of dryness. Jojoba oil is perfect for all skin types; it helps balance oily skin; it soothes sensitive skin and hydrates dry skin.

Shea Butter – Shea Butter is known for its moisturizing properties. African Shea Butter is highly concentrated in fatty acids, and vitamins A and E. Vitamin A helps to protect the skin from harmful sun rays helping to protect the skin from sun damage.

First, to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized, apply your water-based products, and follow with your oil-based products to help seal the water and prevent water from evaporating from the body.

HYDRATION

Hydrating products are mostly water-based products, light-weight, which you apply to the skin, makes the skin supple, plump, and bouncy. Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, glycerine, honey.

Hyaluronic Acid – Hyaluronic acid can draw and hold onto 1000x its weight in moisture. It works up to 72 hours after application to help replenish the skin of hydration and to enhance the skin and give it a supple look.

Aloe Vera – Aloe vera is mostly water, and because of that, it helps to hydrate the skin without making the skin feel greasy. It also helps to lock in moisture. It has anti-inflammatory benefits, and it also contains antioxidants, enzymes, vitamins a, and c.

I hope with this clarity about Hydration Vs. Moisturization; you can discern the best products to choose for your skin.
