The Many Wonders of Permanent and Semi-Permanent Make-up

Semi-Permanent Make-up

When it comes to wearing make-up, I think we put a lot of focus and attention on making up our eyes. You can put a lot of work into applying eyeliner, shadow, and mascara, so you want it to last and look as good as possible for as long as possible, right?

I have pondered on this a lot and thought to myself, wouldn’t it be a great idea if I could save time by making my eyeliner permanent. This way, I could always have the most perfectly applied eyeliner all of the time without worrying about smudging it or if it wears off.

Then I thought about it some more and came up with a plan to give myself the simplest, hassle-free make-up look without needing to go through a long make-up ritual every morning. Doing this would also cut down on the number of touch-ups I would need to do to my make-up throughout the day.

Looking at my permanent make-up options

I did a lot of research online about permanent and semi-permanent make-up and also chatted with a couple of my friends that had had some semi-permanent make-up treatments to get their opinions about it.

After deciding to go ahead, I did a Google search for ‘permanent make-up near me’ and started to check out some of my options with local beauty salons and practitioners.

There was a professional therapist that was offering micro-blading near me, and as I had read up about the benefits of  semi-permanent eyebrow makeup, I thought I would first try out micro-blading to give my over-plucked eyebrows some decent balance and shape.

Microblading to shape my eyebrows

I liked the idea of having semi-permanent microblading as my first step into the world of permanent make-up because the treatment involves feathering tiny micro-pigmentation just under the skin.

As the therapist used a feathering technique between my eyebrows, the finished look was very natural and didn’t look like I had applied a thick eyebrow pencil.

So, now feeling confident after my first experience with semi-permanent eyebrow make-up, I decided to take the next step.

Permanent eyeliner

Now that my eyebrows were looking good, I thought that there was no better way to frame my eyes than to look at making my eyeliner permanent too. The mere thought of not having to carry around a make-up bag full of eyeliner and eyebrow pencil was making me feel happy.

Trying to keep my eyeliner on-point had become an annoying pain. So now, I was actually looking forward to being free of the task of constantly reapplying eyeliner for a while, especially after going swimming, which I do three times per week.

It also meant that I could go out in the rain without worrying that all my hard work would start dripping down my face! I smiled at the thought that applying eyeliner every day could soon be a thing of the past—no more stress, no more panda-eyes, and no more accidentally poking myself in the eye.

I got to choose whether I wanted to line both the upper and lower eyelid, and I decided to go with a more natural, less dramatic look. The results are amazing, and I am very happy.

Micro-pigmentation is not like a tattoo

Even though semi-permanent make-up is technically like having a tattoo, having permanent eyeliner applied doesn’t involve the same techniques as a tattoo.

Just like with the micro-blading, having eyeliner applied is a form of micro-pigmentation that places coloured pigment just below the surface of the skin, it doesn’t go anywhere as deep as a standard tattoo and uses an entirely different technique.

Micro-pigmentation creates the illusion that you are wearing make-up, and the results will usually last for anything between 3 to 5 years. To me, that’s nearly half a decade of not having to buy or carry around a lot of make-up, plus the time saved applying it will mean I can get some extra beauty sleep!

Ditching the make-up bag

Because micro-pigmentation can be used for a wide range of permanent make-up options, including eyebrows, eyeliner shading, and lips, I decided I would go the whole hog and get the permanent makeup lips I deserve.

The three beauty products most focussed on when applying make-up are eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, and lipstick (and possibly the lip-liner too along with lipstick). Having my lips treated with permanent make-up has given me evenly shaped, fuller-looking lips.

Semi-Permanent Make-up

I can honestly say that I was considering having lip-fillers at one point, but having them outlined and defined with permanent make-up instead means that I don’t have to, and I have saved myself a lot of money!

For anyone thinking about having semi-permanent make-up, I would say don’t be put off by the thought that it is painful. Each of my three treatments was relatively quick, extremely safe, very hygienic, and pretty pain-free.
