Winter Skin Care Tips

Winter Skin Care Tips that are so easy to do. Winter is the weather we love to hate. This season can be harsh on our skin and hair if we don’t take care of it properly. Without the proper moisturizing, our hair and skin will get dry by losing
moisture.

Here, I am going to give you some winter skincare tips. Taking good care of your skin is dependent on your skin type.

What is your skin type?

OILY/ACNE PRONE, DRY/SENSITIVE, OR COMBINATION SKIN.

For basic skin care, there are three things that we all should be doing to keep our skin looking young, beautiful and moisturized. These steps are CLEANSING, EXFOLIATING AND MOISTURIZING. These steps are very necessary and vital.

1. CLEANSER Choosing the right cleanser should be dependent on your skin type.

OILY/ACNE PRONE SKIN Look for cleansers that contain salicylic acid, sulfur, benzoyl peroxide or glycolic acid. These ingredients are very powerful in getting rid of acne-causing bacteria, oil, and dirt as these are the main culprits of pimples.

SENSITIVE/DRY SKIN For this skin type, extra hydration is critical. Look for hydrating cleansers with ingredients such as shea butter, olive oil, vitamin E. Also, search for cleansers with “creamy” or “milk” in the title.

COMBINATION SKIN This skin type is a combination of dry and oily skin hence the name combination. With this skin type, the T-ZONE typically gets oily, and the rest of the face is dry. It can be tricky taking care of this skin type because you want to combat both the oiliness and the dryness. You want to get cleansers that contain Alpha-Hydroxy acid and Meadow seed.

2. TONER Skin toner is the least used facial product, but it’s important to use a face toner if you have oily or combination skin. Skin toners are refreshers after you cleanse your face, they are designed to tighten your pore and balance the skin’s pH.

3. MOISTURIZER Moisturizers are our skin’s best friend. They are designed to deliver moisture/hydration to keep the skin supple. They hold water in the outermost layer of the skin. They improve skin tone and texture, and they mask imperfection. Many moisturizers contain some combination of humectants, emollients, and other ingredients. They also act as a temporary barrier. OILY/ACNE SKIN For oily skin, look for moisturizers that contain vitamin C, willow bark extract.

SENSITIVE/DRY SKIN For dry and sensitive skin, look for moisturizers with ingredients such as ceramides, hyaluronic acid. Also, look for creams that contain emollients such as glycerin and petrolatum.

COMBINATION SKIN For combination skin, look for moisturizers with ingredients such as vitamin E, sunflower seed oil, shea butter, or vitamin B5.

4. EXFOLIATE Gentle exfoliation is needed for all skin type. Exfoliating removes dead skin to reveal smooth, glowy younger skin. Exfoliation is best when done twice a week.

5. LIP CARE Don’t forget your lips. They can get rough, dry and flaky. Make sure you exfoliate your lips, that can be done with a lip scrub or a soft bristle toothbrush. I like to use lip balm after I’m done with my face routine and before I put on lipstick.

6. EYE CARE Keeping your eyes hydrated and moisturized with an eye cream is vital. We often wake up with under-eye bags and dark circles due to staying up late into the night or having less sleep but don’t worry; there is nothing that a good eye cream won’t fix. Focus on creams containing vitamin c, caffeine or vitamin K. A cucumber slice on your eye is also perfect for those pesky dark eye circles, just leave them on for ten minutes while you listen to some relaxing music.

Last but important skin care tip is SUNSCREEN. This very vital in so many ways, it helps to prevent dark spots, age spots and most importantly skin cancer. I recommend a sunscreen with an of SPF30.
