Benefits Of Using Glycolic Acid
What Does Glycolic Acid Do?
Glycolic acid is Alpha hydroxy acid, also known as AHA, which comes from natural sources such as sugarcane, sugar beets, and pineapple. Although glycolic acid is the best for most skin types (oily skin, dry skin, combo skin), if you have sensitive skin, glycolic acid is not the best for you.
Glycolic acid works faster because it has the most minor molecule structure, allowing it to penetrate deeper into the skin.
Benefits Of Using Glycolic Acid
It visibly exfoliates the skin by sloughing away dead skin cells, mainly old corneocyte skin cells that need to be shed from the skin. But, be mindful not to over-exfoliate your skin which will remove more corneocytes than required. It would help if you had the corneocytes to help maintain a healthy skin barrier because your skin barrier consists of corneocytes and lipid layers.
Glycolic acid also helps to stimulate collagen and elastin production to help reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles and to firm the skin. In addition, because of its small molecular structure, glycolic acid goes deep into the second layer of the skin (Dermis) to stimulate collagen, which helps to reduce wrinkles because it lifts parts of the skin which is sunken.
Glycolic acid is suitable for dry skin because it helps hydrate the skin by drawing moisture to the skin. Primarily, dry skin results from a lack of adequate oil (sebum) in the skin – to replenish oils in the skin, it is best to use supplemental skincare ingredients such as ceramides, argan oil, and squalane. But, hydration is also an essential part of maintaining healthy skin, and dry skin can benefit from that – this is why if you have dry skin, you can use glycolic acid to draw moisture into your skin. In addition, you may opt for a glycolic acid serum to help hydrate your skin.
Glycolic acid helps to increase the hyaluronic acid level in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is essential to help hydrate the skin and plump the skin.
Also, it helps to fade acne scars and remove hyperpigmentation.
It treats acne.
